Adventure of a lifetime for Ada
A ten-year-old thrill seeker from Colwyn Bay is set for a life-changing year after landing her dream job. Young Ada Marie Brien has been crowned Junior Adventure Tester by AdventureMap, the collection of nine adventure tourism businesses spread across North Wales.
Now the pupil of Ysgol Pen y Bryn in Colwyn Bay can look forward to throwing herself into a series of adrenalin-fuelled activities, including white water rafting, kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking and the world’s fastest zip line.
Ada landed the job after submitting her ‘adventure CV’ in a nationwide competition. She wowed the judges with her tales of climbing Mount Snowdon, traversing the Menai Strait in a home-made canoe and exploring the challenging climbing routes at Dinorwic Slate Quarries.
Excited Ada says: “Adventures are sometimes a little bit scary, but really exciting. They push you to our limits, make you stronger and more confident and can definitely change your life.
“I can’t wait to try all of the AdventureMap activities with my family and friends. These are the type of days out that make me think afterwards ‘wow! I did that’.
“Adventuring is my ultimate daily goal and I take every second of every one into my memory. There’s always an adventure around the corner.”
Ada will test her mettle in the following locations over the next year, telling her terrific tales, here, on the AdventureMap website and providing vital feedback to the businesses who make up the group along the way.
Jo Quinney, from Adventure Map, says: “We were blown away by the number of young adventurers who entered our competition - but Ada was the clear winner.
“The story she told of journeying through the Dinorwic Slate Quarry and scaling a slate piles as high as a skyscraper had us all hooked. She is a terrific story-teller as well as a true adventurer!
“There is such a great spirit of challenge and daring among our younger visitors to all the destinations on the AdventureMap group and this is perfectly captured by Ada and her sense of exploration and discovery.
“We are sure she will have a wonderful time experiencing all we have to offer and we look forward to welcoming her to all the AdventureMap centres in her new role."
